The message on the underside of the tray writes "acla Tacoma Wash-- To Don 5-4-1961", and while the meaning of the acronym could be a number of things, its clear from the rest of the message that this was a gift made and given with love. The level of detail in the piece is a clear indication of how careful the artist was in every stroke, with different shades of greens and browns all coming together to make the leaf come alive. Its a nice thought to consider that this tray still existing despite being created so long ago is a symbol of how love is forever. Who knows where the artist and Don are now, but their story lives on in through this piece of art.
